Basler Dybli by Melchior Berri printed
on hand made Paper from the Basel Paper Mill

In keeping with historic tradition, the papers from the Basel Paper Mill are made from rags, which are first ground by the museum’s stamping mill, then processed in the museum’s Hollander-beater.

Melchior Berri designed the mailbox with classical features, giving it a distinctive hallmark with a white dove on a sky-blue background. This dove, known as the "Basler Dybli," also appeared on new postage stamps and is considered a landmark of Basel today. The mailboxes were cast by the Munich foundry of Ferdinand von Miller and were put into operation in 1845.
